Old Growth

Acrylic on stucco

2007

Hamilton, ON

Old Growth initiated my interest in the environment, architecture, and the city. The large-scale painting plays off the columns of the building and recalls the archetypal forest that once occupied downtown Hamilton. This piece was created by utilizing multiple layers of acrylic paint to blend, build, and convey form.

The work is designed and measured from a single vantage point across the street in a busy part of downtown Hamilton. A commission for Greg Sather of McCallumSather Architects, the project is located at 157 Catherine Street North in Hamilton, formerly McCallumSather Architect’s office space.
